Vail Mountain – More than Simply a Place to Ski

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Last month, I mentioned that Vail resident, three time World Cup champion, and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn was interviewed by the New York Times. In her interview, Lindsey named the International on the front face of Vail Mountain as her favorite ski run in the U.S.  We all know that Vail Mountain is huge both in popularity and in size.  Vail Mountain is the largest single ski area in the U.S. with over 4,000 acres of skiable terrain.  And, it offers something for everyone – there is much more to do on the mountain than ski.  Here, I have profiled a few of the activities for non-skiers (or skiers looking to break out of the box!).  Truly, there is something for everyone on Vail Mountain.

Life on the Wild Side
Daily programs for the Vail Ski School and walk-in visitors.  Drop by the Nature Discovery during regular hours for a fun-filled, five minute lesson on the feathered and furry creatures sharing the slopes.  Each week’s program focuses on a different category of winter wildlife.  Office hours are: Sun and Mon from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tues – Sat from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.  Cost: Free

Adventure Sessions
The Adventure Sessions matches you with a top guide and a small group of similarly skilled skiers and riders.  You’ll get the most out of your day, go places that you may never have been before on Vail Mountain, cut lift lines and pick up tips.  Daily: 9:15 a.m. – 3: 00 p.m.  Call (800) 475-4543 for more information.
